Week 1 (1/8-1/12)

And Spring Semester has started! I am very excited to see what my second semester as a Student Ambassador has in store for me. There wasn't much going on this week as the first week of school is typically a stressful and messy one. This week I worked the welcome desk at (bright & early) 7:30am. I had a lot of students coming up to me to get parking passes again. This was interesting for me because you initially get a parking pass in the fall semester. I am assuming we had a lot of incoming students this Spring Semester. It was nice to see everyone's smiling faces. The first week of a new semester is always fun! I am only taking 4 classes this semester (along with 2 labs) (so technically it's like 5 classes). They are challenging, but I am excited to learn. Cheers to the Spring Semester! XO-LiAnn.

Week 2 (1/15-1/19)

This is an exciting week for me because I worked the student orientation leader and student ambassador info session. the student ambassador position has impacted me so positively and this is the perfect opportunity to get to opening share just how much it means to me. it was exciting to tell everyone what the position has done for me both personally and professionally. i was able to talk about all of the student whose lives i have impacted, the friends i have made, the role models i have met, etc. it was truly a wonderful event. being a student ambassador has allowed me to find who i really am. in class today someone actually asked me all about the position and it is thrilling to share information. it was nice, too, because we talked about it right before a chemistry exam. i haven't seen my grade yet, but i am hoping i did well. classes are going great. They are very quickly moving through tons of information. i gave a speech on opiates and the brain the other day to a classroom full of people that i don't know and it went...very well! this was a first for me. tune in next week to see what's going on in ambassador life. xo-liann.

Week 3 (1/22-1/26)

Have I mentioned yet that we are celebrating UC Blue Ash's 50th Anniversary? Well, now I have! I feel honored to be a part of this special year at UCBA. This week I worked the UCBA 50 Things Video event. Pete, the wonderful man who works in our Communications Office, is creating a video of 50 different students saying a reason why they chose UC Blue Ash or what they love about it. I am so, so excited for this video! Pete has worked very hard on it and I think it will be the perfect way to broadcast just SOME of the reasons why UCBA is such a special place. This week we also had our first Student Ambassador meeting of the semester. It was so nice to see everyone and talk about expectations for this semester. Classes are going well. I am still surviving, so that is always something to celebrate!

Week 4 (1/29-2/2)

We are steadily into week 4 already! Not much is happening on campus this week. My only duty of the week is my welcome desk shift. Welcome desk is a great opportunity for me to work on extra homework while helping people over the phones and in person. It is always an experience in itself because you never what to expect! Some days, you are clueless about things being asked over the phones and can do nothing but transfer calls and other days you know the answers to absolutely every single phone call and can quickly help people resolve any issues they are experiencing. It's always nice to see people that you know or professors walk by to exchange simple goodbyes for the day . Classes are going well. I got to look at human cheek cells underneath a microscope this week in my Biology Lab. That was interesting. I also got to look at the gut of a termite. It was moving a lot. This was SO cool! Did you know that termites actually cannot digest wood themselves (crazy, right?). They have a living organism in their gut that digests the wood for them. How neat! XO-LiAnn

Week 5 (2/5 - 2/9)

Week 5 is in the books! This week I worked one of my favorite events. UC Smiles! This is a program where local schools come to UCBA  learn about dental health, college, and get a free teeth cleaning. At the end of  the day, we give away a free toothbrush to a student who really needs it. There was an elementary school that came and the cutest thing   happened.  The students arrived early and so we had to stall until  our first speaker got there. I just took it upon myself to start an ice breaker with the kids. We played the game "You're going on a bus, what will you bring with you?" The kids were so funny. They wanted to bring a lot of zoo animals so I pretended that we were on our way to an African Safari. Later on in the day, Nick (from Student Life & Engagement), asked  for each kid to write down someone who they think is a leader. A little girl said me! It was so sweet. Nick asked her to explain why and my heart  just filled with joy. It is truly moments like these when I remember why I love being an Ambassador so much.

Classes are going alright. I am very overwhelmed with my new job since I have to get up at 2:30am and it is starting to affect me. I am not spending as much time on homework as I have in the past. I have exams or quizzes almost constantly in 3 of my classes so that is difficult. I am  ready for SPRING BREAK! XO-LiAnn.

Week 6 (2/12-2/16)

Almost half-way through the semester already. Can you believe it?! I can. This week I was able to work a really neat event. There was a man who just finished his PhD and he wants to become a college professor. So, one of the UCBA professors set up an event where he got to lecture on a topic and a bunch of people acted like students in class. It was great that he had the opportunity to see what it is really like to be a professor before he is certain that it's what he wants to do the rest of his life. I also worked UC Smiles, again! We had a very energy group of 4-6th graders. We had to kill some time so I took the kiddos on a tour of the campus and they thought this was really neat. We made a stop into the Science Learning Lab and there were models of bones and they all said "Ewww!!"

Classes are going well. I have a Biology Lab Practical and an Anatomy Lab Practical next week. So here's to studying! XO-LiAnn

Week 7 (2/19 - 2/23)

First Spring Open House! "It was record-breaking" one could say. I heard many different numbers, but supposedly there were around 800 people at the Open House! It is wild to me how many people are starting to realize what a hidden gem we are here at UCBA. Open House was a lot of fun. I was in charge of campus tours with Gift and we had a blast. It is so much fun to show people around our campus and highlight just some of the many reasons why UCBA is truly a place for everyone and anyone to expand their knowledge base.

Along with Open house this week I also worked an event where students were taking the entrance Kaplan exam to get into the Nursing program. I definitely sympathized with every student there. You could feel the nervous and anxious energy in the room. I left sending positivity towards every single student's way.

Classes are coming along just fine. I received a B on my Anatomy Lab Practical and a B on the Biology Lab Practical. I am happy with those grades! One week closer to Spring Break-I can do this!

Week 8 (2/26 - 3/2)

Not much went on in Ambassador life this week. I am also a Student Orientation Coordinator and we are leaving for Canada on Friday morning so I am pretty stressed out and there were no events that fit into my schedule. But,  I still had my Welcome Desk shift! It was productive, like always. I usually get a lot of phone calls during my welcome desk shift (4p-5p). I am assuming it's because people are starting to get off of work. Ludwing's welcome desk shift is before mine so we got to chit chat for a few minutes before he left and it was nice to talk. School is always so stressful and sometimes you just need to talk to a friend.

Classed are going well. They are all very demanding this semester. I am only taking 15 credit hours and I swear I have more work than last semester when I was taking 18 credit hours! That's okay though. I am really enjoying all of my classes. Especially my Brains on Drugs course. We have a paper due in that class in about a month so I need to start brainstorming about a topic!

Week 9 (3/5 - 3/9)

This week I worked a really fun event. Students from Butler Tech high schools came to visit UCBA for a "Career Centered" Day. These students were able to attend 4 different information sessions about programs we offer here at UCBA. These students are students who are very focused on what they already want to do in college or have as a career in the future. So, they were very interested in the day. I had a student tell me that this event was extremely beneficial and everyone should have to do it. I also got to take students back and forth between Muntz and Walters so I got quite a few steps in!

This week has been a wild one though. My mom had emergency surgery and so I am quite far behind. I missed 4 days of classes. Trips to the ER. BUT- My mom is on the road to recovery!!! Yay!!!! I am grateful that I was able to help her and take care of her. My Ambassador team and bosses were very supportive during this time and that meant so much to me.

This leaves me behind. But, my professors are working with me.

Week 10 (3/12-3/16)

Week 10?! Did I type that correctly. This semester is flying by. I have some exciting news to share with you all...

SPRING BREAK!!

That's right. We're on Spring Break. It definitely much needed. I have time to catch up on studying and school work. Woo-Hoo! This week I also picked up some shifts at the Welcome Desk. It is not very busy here during Spring Break so I definitely got a lot of school work completed. That was nice. It is also nice to see faculty and professors during this time.

Other than welcome desk, there is not much excitement going on due to the break so I will catch you all up next week when we have much more going on.

Until then-I will be studying!

Week 11 (3/19-3/23)

What a Busy week! This was a very fun week as an Ambassador. I helped with a lot of events. Dish with the Dean was one of the events I was helping with and it was very fun because the Dean told other students to come to us (Ambassadors) about knowledge on the campus and how to get involved. It was so rewarding to be the P.O.C for students when dealing with issues on how to get involved. The most fun event I worked this week was with the UC Blue Ash Chemistry Department helping 3rd graders learn about basic Chemistry. Then, at the end, we helped students make slime. They thought this was really cool. We also had dry ice in the laboratory and they students "OOO'd and AH'd". To top the week off, I gave a campus tour to UC's new Asst. Vice Provost of Academic Affairs. She had never seen Blue Ash campus and is working on trying to connect UC Clifton and UC Blue Ash more effectively. She asked my opinions on a lot, which was very interesting.

Classes are going wonderfully. I am just chugging along. Each week is difficult, but I have been able to stay caught up! Until next time!

Week 12 (3/26-3/30)

This week I worked an event called "Women in Global Politics Panel". It was a very interesting event. Shamefully, I really only pay attention to politics in the United States. This was an opportunity to hear about women in politics all around the world. The impacts they've had and the inequality that still exists, even though, media likes to portray the opposite. It was quite eye-opening. I feel like moments like these are what college is really all about. Opening up your eyes to what is going on all around you in the real world. All of the things I heard about are easy to find anywhere on the internet. All you have to do it look it up.  Where it may not be broadcasted, the information is out there. I urge everyone to look up politics in other countries. You never know just how much they may impact the United States. We all live in this one world, despite governmental differences.

My work load this week is quite extensive. I am very, very busy with homework. So, if you're wondering where to find me-I will happily be in the library!

Week 13 (4/2 - 4/6)

This week was so much fun! I worked an event with the Career Services Center. We went to two different classrooms and presented information on how to prepare for an interview (clothes to wear, questions to ask, etc.). After the presentation we conducted mock interviews. I got to pretend to be an interviewer and ask interviewees questions. It was a group interview. Then I got to pick one person from my group, Chris picked one person from his group, and these two individuals sat in front of the class and we asked them interview questions! They were brave souls. It was fun though because I got to experience what it is like to be an interviewer. It opened my eyes to the types of responses and confidence employers look for in their interviewees. It was valuable information and experience. I actually had an interview later the next week and I used the points we covered in that event to help me. It paid off! I got the job.

I am now, officially, and Office Manager.  I am so grateful! This Ambassador experience truly has changed my life.

Week 14 (4/9) - (4/13)

This week we had our 7th Annual Mediated Minds event. This is an opportunity for undergraduate students who have conducted research over the past year/semester to present their findings. It is rare for a campus like UC Blue Ash to have an event this-it is rare for any campus to have an opportunity to conduct research. Typically, this is only an option that Graduate students have. It was really neat to get to see students and talk to them about research that they have done. I like seeing the hard work that my fellow classmates have done. I wish I would have taken advantage of this opportunity, but I did not! It was great to support everyone though.

This week I also worked the Radiologic Technology Pinning Ceremony. It was short and sweet as the Rad Tech program is a selective admissions program, but it was great to see students getting pinned and getting ready for graduation to start their career.

We are slowly, but surely approaching finals week!

Week 15 (4/16-4/20)

This week was not filled with a ton of events due to the fact that finals week is NEXT week. Typically, events start to low down by this week because all students at the college are busy studying and preparing for final exams. With that being said, Jercell and I led a campus tour to CCP (College Credit Plus) students. It was the longest tour we have given yet as they wanted a lot of information and really wanted student's perspectives on the college and what college life is really like. It was a neat opportunity because we really got to talk a lot about our experiences and what UC Blue Ash has really done for us.

Finals week is next week. If you need to find me, you can find me in the library. Study, study, study!
